The Anti-Drug Coalition's main focus is prevention for youth in Citrus County. We use a combination of evidenced-based practices and environmental strategies, while partnering with other agencies and organizations in the community to help us achieve this goal.
Know the Law
The ADC partners with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office who teaches Know the Law to local 7th grade students each year. With the help of our School Resource Officers, these middle school students come away with a working knowledge of drug laws and dangers, preparing them for their main teenage years. From a Pre-Survey, to a course that lasts over several weeks, these students learn important information concerning drugs and the consequences.
Teen Town Hall
The ADC utilizes one of the most effective teen interactions by hosting a Teen Town Hall each year. As this event has grown in participation, it has also become a privilege to be selected to attend this event for students. Students are selected through a nomination process by teachers, and attend willingly. Break-out sessions are offered by some of Citrus County's best prevention leaders and advocates, that peek student's interest and help them to engage in meaningful conversation, yielding some interesting feedback. In 2016, approximately 55 students attended the half-day event, and exchanged ideas about the substance abuse and other issues facing youth in Citrus County.
Other Teen Initiatives include Friday Night Done Right, and the clubs in our local schools, Maximum Impact.
